Classico FISMAT

CLASSICO LAB - HOME

The Center and Laboratory for Simulation of Complex Systems aims to make notable advances in several science areas involving complex systems. A complex system comprises many components that may interact with each other, generating exuberant collective phenomena, despite inherent simplistic interactions among its constituents.

Our infrastructure is a heterogeneous Linux cluster composed of shared computer nodes. The computational arrangement is suitable for most research computing areas and across many disciplines, including physics, statistics, data analysis, molecular modeling, scientific and engineering simulation, and visualization.

Benefits

The CLASSICO offers a broad array of computing and storage resources and services to stimulate computational research across a comprehensive range of academic disciplines. The Lab affords researcher access to computational resources and services without incurring additional systems administration costs, software support, facility build-out, or power and cooling. The cluster provides computational capacity for single and multi-processor jobs. We offer a modern, controlled, and secure facility at the Escola Politécnica de Pernambuco, Universidade de Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil.

Key Features

  • A heterogeneous Linux cluster suitable for a wide range of computational research.
  • A range of node, memory, and queue configurations are available to meet the researchers' demands.
  • Machine nodes with computational accelerators (GPUs).
  • A broad selection of programming languages, parallelizing compilers, mathematical and scientific libraries, graphics and visualization software, and discipline-specific application packages.
  • Fully-shared resources available at no cost to all associated researchers.

What to Expect

The CLASSICO is usually available 24 by 7 except for standard change windows. Additionally, the Lab has annual maintenance, which requires a 24-hour full interruption. Since most of the FISMAT facility is not protected with backup power, the CLASSICO is subject to electric utility power outages.

Requirements

Must be an associate member of a CLASSICO research program.
FISMAT faculty are allowed to create research projects and serve as Lead Project Investigators.
Lead Project Investigators may add collaborators (students, researchers outside of FISMAT/UPE) to their research projects.

Costs

The CLASSICO shared model provides a base-level of computing resources to the entire University research community on a fair-share basis without charge. Owners retain priority use.
